ECDC CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS: A pilot validation study for a decision-making modelling tool for Dengue, Chikungunya and Zika

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS: Hosting a pilot study for validation of the modelling tool to support the decision making process for surveillance and vector control of dengue, chikungunya and Zika virus infection in Europe.

We are planning to do a fourth pilot study in 2019 as part of the project “Development of a modelling tool to support the decision making process for surveillance and vector control of dengue, chikungunya and Zika virus infection in Europe”. For this, we are looking for a European country to host this pilot study.

In the framework of this project, data collection for three pilot studies has

Protocol summary

Objective

Evaluate the effectiveness of vector control strategies on mosquito population dynamics

Targeted species

Aedes albopictus and/or Aedes aegypti

Spatial area: City level

Requirements:

· Existence of control strategies against Aedes albopictus and/or Aedes aegypti, as insecticide (space or residual) spraying, environmental management (source reduction, door-to-door), larviciding, personal protection and avoidance, biological control or novel vector control tools.

· Complementary historical data of entomological and epidemiological surveillance

Would facilitate the execution of the pilot study:

Existence of entomological and/or integrated surveillance activities; historical data of dengue, chikungunya and Zika virus circulation; type of land use and environment; climatic and demographic data; complementary management activities as: community participation, multisectoral collaboration, advocacy, capacity building, policies and laws.
